| Talmadge was best known for his paintings of Warriors and Veterans. This painting lists the names of 238 Native Americans who died in Vietnam. However, it is a tribute to all of the sacrifices made by our men and women in the armed services.
The original proudly hangs in the Army Museum of the Southwest in Lawton, Oklahoma. Before it was donated it in 2001 it garnered 6 awards from art shows across the country.
This painting contains the name of every Native American that is listed with the military that died in Vietnam. In this painting I wanted to convey the heartache that this man felt at being the only one from his squad tosurvive. but the cost to this man was enormous. He lives every day with his grief and the disabilities received from the war. This painting pays tribute to the Native soldiers who died in Vietnam and to the ones who received life altering disabilties, but also to the other 58,000 men and women who by answering the call of their country displayed a true warrior spririt and paid the ultimate price. This painting is dedicated with much respect to the thousands of disabled American veterans and to our Brothers Gone But Not Forgotten.
